Coiled Tubing MPD for Tight Gas Field Re-Entry Work: Earl Dietrich, Drilling, Blade Energy, Stewart Denton, Blade Energy, Richard Ortiz, BP America, Mike Ohanian, Baker Hughes Inteq (IADC/SPE 122272)

Alaska has a stellar history utilizing coiled tubing drilling re-entry technology. A second successful coiled tubing re-entry campaign in Sharjah, UAE showed that lateral knowledge transfer was possible, and significant upside results could be achieved. Building on the success of these campaigns, BP in the lower 48 attempted a 10 well CTD pilot to evaluate use of coiled tubing technology in the lower 48. This paper will cover FEL science work done, equipment specification, well construction/design, operational results, cost improvements, and operational efficiencies necessary to keep program running, and competitive with grassroots horizontal wells.

Application in Mexico and New World Depth Record for MPD Concentric Nitrogen Injection To Drill Horizontal Wells in Low-Pressure Reservoirs at Samaria Field: Corrado Lupo, IPM MPD/UBD Manager, Schlumberger, Jose Miguel Castellanos, Schlumberger, Oscar Ramirez Lamus, Schlumberger, Jorge Bedoya, Blade Energy Partners, Gustavo Puerto, Blade Energy Partners, Antonio Urbieta, Pemex (IADC/SPE 122198)

First successful implementation in Mexico of Nitrogen Concentric injection technique to drill high angle well Samaria 5111 in the ultra depleted fractured carbonates reservoir section achieving full real time pulse telemetry. This well also recorded a world record for the deepest injection point for this kind of application.
